1. Mark Your Calendar for Discovery Center in February

    Wednesday, February 1 -  Discovery Center is a great family orientated attraction for the SW Missouri area and a great place to bring your family.  With 11 different galleries and over 200 different hands on exhibits,  families of all ages can enjoy the interactive exhibits that focus on all sorts of science with inquiry based learning.  New this month:  Discovery Center has brought back the Astronomy Gallery.  Discovery Center is located at 438 E St. Louis St. in downtown Springfield with free parking in Discovery Center parking lot located east of the main doors.  General Admission is $9.00 adults, $8.00 seniors and $7.00 for children age 3-15 and children 2 & under are free.  Hours are Tuesday-Thursday 9am-5pm, Friday-Saturday 9am-6pm, and Sunday 1-5pm.  Check the website at www.discoverycenter.org.  
     

    Wednesday February 8 or Thursday February 16 - DCS Volunteer Training 4-6pm.  Discovery Center of Springfield relies on a variety of volunteers.  From the Board of Directors, gardeners, retired teachers, that assist with classes and curriculum to current high school and college students that assist with visitors on the floor and events.  All of these great people are needed and very much appreciated.  Each volunteer attends an overall DCS training and then gets plugged into their interest area.  We encourage anyone that is willing to give their time and talents to education to consider DCS as an option.   For more information contactapettit@discoverycenter.org or call 417-862-9910 Ext 709.

    Saturday, February 11 - Kid’s Summer Discovery Expo Free Admission- 9am-6pm.  A One day fair for your family to learn about all the wonderful summer camps, programs and educational activities available for your children in Summer 2012.  Visit with summer camp leaders while enjoying hands-on exhibits at Discovery Center.  Admission is Free. Sponsored by Kids Directory.  

    Friday, February 17 - 9am-5pm - Science Sprout Museum Day. This is the last Science Sprout Day until September.  We invite all young learners up to age 6 to learn, explore and discover a different topic each month. February’s  theme Out of this World.   Enjoy Science Storytime with Park Central Library Staff at 10am & 1pm and a special science demonstration by DCS staff at 11 am and 2 pm.   General admission applies.  

    Monday, February 20 - Discovery Center will be open to the public for President’s Day  9am-5pm.  Enjoy this holiday with your family.  General admission applies. 

    Thursday, February 23 - College Night at Discovery Center 8-11pm.  Don’t be embarrassed about wanting to have fun at Discovery Center, join friends of your age with a college ID and you can get in at the discount rate of $5.00 per person.  The HighWire Bike will also be available at $3.00 per person.  

    Saturday, February 25 - “Read Across America Seuss Science Day”  presented by Mercy Children’s Hospital and Ozarks Public Television.  Join us at Discovery Center for $5.00 per person admission day and see how fun Seuss Science can be.  Springfield/Greene County Library will be reading a variety of Dr. Seuss books, Discovery Center will have several Seuss Science activity stations, and the Cat in the Hat will be making an appearance.
